Much like other religions, Islam uses music as a form of prayer or is used to enhance the spiritual experience of man. In the Islamic religion it is very important for one to understand the concepts of Allah's transcendence. This can be difficult sometimes, so in order to make these concepts more tangible, they are often expressed in song or poetry.
In everyday life music could be used to encourage pilgrimage, evoke the love of God and much more. Music could be form of meditation and could be used to express grief and sorrow. Music though is not always accepted in the Islamic religion. Often you will not here music during worship. The closest thing to music during worship is recitation of scripture from the Quran, that can be heard melodically and musically.
