Pre-MarriagePre-marital relationships are not allowed in Islamic culture. Muslim couples do not get involved in any relationships with members of the opposite sex before deciding who they plan on marring. The topic of marriage is not taken lightly and includes prayers, family involvement, and careful analysis of the potential spouse.
The potential husband's family will approach the woman's family to discuss the compatibility of their children. If both families see potential in their children being in a successful marriage, the potential husband's family will arrange a meeting with the woman's family. During this meeting, they will discuss the possibility of marriage and observe if their children have compatible personalities. If all goes well, the potential husband is given permission to purchase an engagement ring (Dating and Courtship in Islam 2015). |
